Complaint
Description: On August 2, 2018, Plaintiff was standing in front of 31-10 Dwight Avenue in Queens, New York, when Plaintiff was approached by NYPD Officers John Backer and Rosario Castellano of the 101st Precinct. Without lawful cause or reasonable suspicion, the officers stopped, questioned, and subsequently used excessive physical force against Plaintiff. During the encounter, Plaintiff was assaulted and battered, causing significant injuries, particularly to Plaintiff's left hand and fingers. As a result of the force used by the officers, Plaintiff was taken to St. John's Episcopal Hospital, where Plaintiff was treated for the injuries from August 2 to August 3, 2019.
