Description: On October 27, 2020, Plaintiffs Olivia Wanebo and John Acosta attended a protest against police brutality in Kings County. Plaintiff Acosta was filming the officers stationed at the protest and witnessed an unnamed officer use their bicycle as a weapon against another protestor. Upon using his phone to record the incident, Defendant Captain Ramos shoved Mr. Acosta and stated that he was placing Mr. Acosta under arrest. Description: On September 18, 2020, at approximately 4pm-5pm, one of the Plaintiffs, Ms. Wright was present at a protest near Washington Square Park in Manhattan, at or around LaGuardia Place. Ms. Wright was standing with a group of protesters and was attempting to film about 8-10 members of the NYPD, who were piled on top of one man. Description: Plaintiff was sitting in his car that was not running when defendant officers pulled alongside him and arrested him for driving with a suspended license and possession of a forged instrument. Both charges were later dismissed. Defendants rear handcuffed Plaintiff despite the fact that he had a broken wrist. On a separate occasion, defendant officers pulled over a vehicle in which Plaintiff was a passenger, searched it, arrested him, took him to a precinct, strip-searched him, and charged him with possession of marijuana and a forged prescription. Charges were later dismissed.
